This mother was carefully foraging in the marsh. She had cubs hidden in the reeds. It has been a while since we last had a clear view of a raccoon on the island. Last year, Anthony had discovered a lifeless raccoon half-covered in autumn leaves. He photographed it with a sad heart. The life of a wild creature in an encroached environment is precarious. Fortunately, low tide exposes raccoon tracks along the mud banks, heartening evidence that they are still island inhabitants.
