Magnificence Amidst the Metropolis

My favorite place is Theodore Roosevelt Island. Inevitably, I met my husband there, during a magical February snowstorm. Anthony and I enjoy collaborating; especially on photographic projects. Central to both our creative practices is regular time spent in wild places where we find tranquility that is centering and provides a sense of place in the world.

Anthony explains, “My passion for wild places means that my day usually begins well before dawn. I am in place to witness sunrises and glimpse fox, raccoon, deer, beavers and sleepy birds shaking out their feathers. Through my photography and being present, I find confirmation of being part of nature.”

For years, our visits to the island have been almost daily. Here we find a connection to nature that lifts our spirits to become our better selves. Our photographing the island is a continuing project; an account of love of place, spirit, and our personal tale.
Roosevelt Island exists tenuously within the Nation's Capital. The island and its inhabitants rely on humans for survival.
